NEHS was incredibly happy to host students from Dighton Jr./Sr. High School, KS, and Batesville High School, AR, at the Sigma Tau Delta Centennial Convention in St. Louis, MO, between April 3 and 6.
Students had the opportunity to attend paper presentations and roundtables, hear keynote speakers Maryfrances Wagner (Missouri Poet Laureate) and Carl Phillips (winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry), listen to readings of published creative writing, strut their stuff at the Open Mic night, and play (very competitively) Literary Trivia.
Convention workshops provided food for thought to both NEHS student members and Chapter Advisors through engaging topics such as publishing and editing, the use of English skills in the legal world, addressing issues of race and racism through dialogue in the English classroom, and career opportunities for English graduates.

NEHS Advisory Council members hosted a roundtable event with English Education students on the topic of ELA education in 2024. The session gave audience members opportunities to ask burning questions about what teaching is really like to experienced educators.
