The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) has recently updated a position statement concerning censoring practices prevalent in many school districts. Since September is the month the NEHS Intellectual Freedom Challenge occurs and it is also the month for Banned Book Week, NEHS Chapter Advisors may wish to download the new NCTE statement for reference. The information artfully delineates NCTE’s assertions “that students’ and teachers’ unimpeded access to quality literature has to be assured.”
