The NEHS students who submitted the best argumentative essays for the Intellectual Freedom Challenge have been announced. Five NEHS chapters had winners—Gerstell Academy in Maryland, Saint Mary’s Hall in Texas, Junius Rose High School in North Carolina, Florida Virtual Academy in Florida, and Uskudar American Academy in Turkey. Each of the chapters receives $50 for each of their winning students while the students receive $100 cash, a $25 gift certificate from Better World Books, and an award certificate. The judges, all university faculty from Sigma Tau Delta chapters, were very impressed with the passionate “freedom to read” stances the students presented in their writing.
