As the school year comes to a close, individual students and chapters have received a flurry of awards and grants.
Junior Summer Study Awards
Three members of NEHS, all juniors, have each received $500 Summer Study Awards to support learning activities in which they will be engaged in the coming months. Winners are: Michael Omole from City of Pembroke Pines Charter High School (FL) who will be leading a debate mentorship program in Nigeria; Christina Wang from Milton High School (GA) who will be attending the Kenyon Young Writers’ Workshop; and Alejandro Rodriguez from Edinburg High School (TX) who will be attending the University of Notre Dame’s Summer Scholars program in Identity and Popular Culture. Congratulations!

The chapter is working closely with the Upper Darby Libraries, supporting young library patrons as well as working to get library cards in the hands of high school students who need the library services to successfully complete homework and access technology. The Upper Darby Libraries received $500 and the chapter $100.
Chapter Project Grant
A Chapter Project Grant of $200 has been awarded to Pembroke Pines Charter High School (FL). The school’s Speech and Debate Mentorship Program will work next fall with fourth and fifth grades students in argumentative skills, public speaking, and the artistry of speech and debate.
