Every year, the National English Honor Society recognizes excellence in critical and analytical writing through its Scholarships competition.
This year, we are pleased to announce that thirty-one deserving high school students from around the world have been awarded scholarships by the NEHS Advisory Council as a result of the excellent analytical essays focused on the 2023 Common Reader, Qian Julie Wang’s Beautiful Country, they submitted to us earlier this year.
All winning submissions were of extremely high quality and each reflected the personality and interests of individual students. The evaluating team, made up of over fifty educators from around the world, were impressed with the depth of the analysis undertaken by applicant students, and the breadth of topics covered.
In addition to the NEHS Scholarships provided to students, for the first time in National English Honor Society history, the Society has been able to award three students with the prestigious William C. Johnson Scholarship, named for the founder of NEHS. These scholarships are each worth $5,000 and are given to the best essays received each year.
