After careful consideration of suggestions from chapters and a review of the survey sent to all Chapter Advisors concerning the Common Reader, the Advisory Council has selected Qian Julie Wang’s memoir, Beautiful Country, for the featured text and basis of scholarship applications for 2022-2023. The Kirkus Review states, “Engaging readers through all five senses and the heart, Wang’s debut memoir is a critical addition to the literature of immigration as well as the timeless category of childhood memoir.” Wang is a graduate of Yale Law School and now leads a firm “dedicated to advocating for education and civil rights.”
NEHS is attempting to develop a partnership with an organization that may be able give NEHS members and chapters a reduction in cost for the text. More information about the partnership will be provided as soon as possible.
